Taipei Xinmin Private Elementary School is a distinguished school with an extensive history, featuring “Innovation, Excellence, Exquisiteness, and Vitality” as its educational ethos. Its students not only display outstanding academic performance, but also exhibit great strengths and achieve great results in such competitions as choirs, clarinet ensemble, English drama, languages, sports and science. The School actively cultivates students’ diverse capabilities and educates them according to their temperaments.
As Smarter Classroom is gathering momentum, Xinmin Elementary School has also jumped on the bandwagon. In 2016, the school principal, Pan Liang-Xi, gave support to the TEAM Model Smarter Classroom to be inducted into the entire school for full cultivation of Smarter teachers and Smarter Education development, under the premise of software/hardware equipment upgrades. In addition, the School has spared no effort in promoting international education under the theme of “Overturning the Global Village - Transporting the World to Xinmin.” In the 60th School Anniversary, students performed international music and dances for a deepened experiential study of international cultures and traits, along with dressing up in costumes. The aim is to team up Smarter Education and international education to cultivate all-around future talents.
To comply with policies from above, Pricipal Pan Liang-Xi hopes to conduct teacher professional development for students to benefit fully from classroom teaching. The School has proposed the concept of “60 years for the school, one entire life for the students” by proactively hosting TEAM Model Smarter Classroom workshops. Touchingly, all of the school's teachers, including the principal and department heads, have showed up to attend the above workshop. The lecturer enables the teachers, via experiential activities and drills, to grasp how to establish a connection with the student’s in the future in class with the help of technology and to keep track of the students’ trains of thought before giving real-time adjustments on one’s teaching directions, so that the teachers and students can both progress in learning.
As the school representative in this year’s Summit, Xinmin Elementary School has gradually implemented the instructional system such as IES and AClass ONE Appin order for the teachers to keep track of the students’ learning status with Big Data analysis. On November 10, Principal Pan Liang-Xi will officially and publicly share the successful experience and results in the school’s development of Smarter teachers, devising Smarter models, unfolding Smarter Classrooms. The convention will also host Smarter workshops on TEAM Model Team-based Learning and encourage global Smarter teachers to exchange precious teaching experience, promote technology application in the classroom, and to promote Smarter Education.
Taoyuan, being Taiwan’s smart city icon, proposed the “Smart City Flagship Program” in 2017 to progress steadily in its urban development strategies. When it comes to Smarter campus in Taoyuan, one has to mention Taoyuan Municipal Da You Junior High School, which is advancing at an incredible speed while overturning our views on education.
Starting from August 2016, the TEAM Model Smarter Classroom support system has been gradually inducted. In less than a year, over 80% of the teachers have all changed their teaching approaches, and over 90% of the classes can all utilize Smarter instructional system on a regular basis. Such pronounced results have drawn the visit of the Education Minister from Helsinki, Finland. In 2017, the school had an overall induction, with 50 Smarter Classrooms installed, and delivered an outstanding performance in the Comprehensive Assessment Program for Junior High School Students. This is sufficient indication that Da You Junior High School’s model in implementing Smarter Education is a worthy model for other schools to learn from.
“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”
In order to motivate teachers into learning about Smarter Classroom, teachers in Da You Junior High School that are familiar with the Smarter Classroom support system take initiatives in forming a commission and draft a Hiking Project in which to divide up the use of technology in Smarter Classroom into five stages, , much like a series of games marked with challenges. Certifications and rewards would be given to teachers for mutual stimulation and learning, as well as for self-improvement in professional development. Subsequently, such a proactive attitude will allow for an alternative classroom experience for the students.
Decent policies will have an impact on the performance of the team. Da You Junior High School’s principal, Mr. Chen Jia-Xiang proposes his five principles in technology leadership and congeals the team of teachers with concrete approaches, where Smarter Education is no longer about one person working in isolation. His approaches have achieved drastic key effects, whether in terms of attitudes or practical operations. On November 10, Principal Chen Jia-Xiang will share with the public the successful experiences and results & conclusions of the Smarter teachers development, formulating Smarter models, and delivering Smarter Lectures in his school. The convention will also host Smarter workshops on TEAM Model Team-based Learning and encourage global Smarter teachers to exchange precious teaching experience, promote technology application in the classroom, and to promote Smarter Education.
